State wants to require fire sprinklers for older high-rises
[9/23/2007] - New Jersey is proposing that older high-rise apartment buildings and condos be required to add sprinklers for fire safety.
Although sprinklers have been required in residential buildings of six stories or higher built since 1989, older buildings are exempt.
Last week, however, the state Department of Community Affairs proposed a change to the state fire code that would require older high-rises -- both residential and office buildings -- to be retrofitted to include sprinklers.

[9/19/2007] - Fire officials in New Jersey are pushing to make the state the first in the nation to fit all old high-rises with sprinklers.
About 400 high-rise buildings - 75 or more feet high - have no sprinklers or only partial sprinkler systems, and state fire commissioners and other officials are urging the state Department of Community Affairs to adopt a regulation calling for all of the structures to be retrofitted with full systems.

Sprinkler controls fire in upscale West Harrison home

Explosion and fire closes Wichita City Hall Monday
[9/17/2007] - Wichita, Kansas September 17 -- There was an explosion late Sunday night, in the basement of the Wichita city building -- and it will shut down city business on Monday.
The first crews were called to City Hall around midnight. A transformer had exploded in the basement, causing some damage to that immediate area and smoke to spread throughout several floors.
