Work disrupted for Hollister-Whitney plant workers
[2/5/2009] - QUINCY, IL -- Work was disrupted for workers at the Hollister-Whitney plant Thursday morning. Fire crews were called to the factory shortly before 9am.  The Quincy Fire Department says a sprinkler system inside a paint booth at the Hollister Whitney plant did it's job and contained the fire.  Assistant fire chief Greg Dryer says the fire was out by the time firefighters got on the scene. link


Chicago Landmark Holy Name Cathedral Damaged In Early Morning Blaze
[2/4/2009] - Chicago, IL (AHN) - Chicago firefighters battled an early morning three-alarm fire at landmark Holy Name Cathedral Wednesday that blazed through the structure's roof. It took about an hour for firefighters to bring the blaze under control. It was confined to the roof and attic of the 134-year-old, but water was dripping onto the alter area and elsewhere in the building. link


Fire Forces Evacuations At Westmoreland Plant
[2/3/2009] - Workers at a Westmoreland county plant had to be evacuated because of a fire on Tuesday morning. Firefighters were called to the Elliot company in Jeannette around 5:30 a.m. By the time fire crews arrived smoke was pouring from the building. link


Clemson students back in dorm after 4 a.m. fire Tuesday
[2/3/2009] - CLEMSON UNIVERSITY — Most students returned to Byrnes Hall on the Clemson University campus Tuesday after an early-morning fire. No one was injured in the 4:17 a.m. fire, which caused the evacuation of roughly 400 students — mostly freshmen — into subfreezing temperatures, university officials said. Students were moved to Manning and Lee halls nearby, said John Gouch, a Clemson spokesman. link


Inn evacuated after trash fire
[2/3/2009] - A trash can fire in a vending area prompted the Fairfield Inn on Brenton Way near Hillview to be evacuated shortly before 11 a.m. today, said Maj. Josh Grimes with the Zoneton Fire Department. Everyone got out safely and there were no reports of injuries, he said. link

Air conditioning unit causes fire at sorority house
[2/2/2009] - The Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority house was evacuated Sunday night after a window air conditioner caught fire. The fire, which started in a bedroom on the second floor, was quickly controlled by the sprinkler system in the house. link
