Sprinkler system at Sharon manufacturer handles afterhours blaze
[11/28/2008] - SHARON — The sprinkler system at a manufacturing company extinguished a fire that broke out after the building had shut down for Thanksgiving, fire officials said.
Sharon Fire Capt. Bert Cummings said the blaze at Temptronic, a thermal-component company at 4 Commercial St., began about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Sprinklers limit Sheldon damage
[11/24/2008] - A woman escaped serious injury in a fire at Sheldon Towers in Rutland that started when a cigarette she was smoking in bed came in contact with an oxygen tube she uses to breathe, according to fire officials.
Rutland Fire Department responded Saturday night to a bedroom fire at Sheldon Towers. Firefighters received the call at 9:39 p.m. and within two minutes responded to the 10-story tower, said Chief Robert Schlachter. link

Children with lighter ignite apartment fire
[11/21/2008] - KALAMAZOO -- Two children playing with a lighter ignited a fire Thursday that damaged an apartment on the city's south side, police said.
Smoke was coming from a unit at the Rosewood Community, 4774 Horton Drive, when Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded at 8:04 p.m. to a report of an apartment fire, a news release said. Police said the fire was confined to a first-floor bedroom and the apartment's automatic sprinkler system had extinguished the flames by the time officers entered the residence.

Sprinklers Help Squelch 2 Tampa Apartment Fires
[11/7/2008] - TAMPA - Sprinklers helped save the day for more than 40 Tampa apartments in the past few days, Tampa firefighters say.
On Thursday night, New Tampa Fire Engine 21 was called to a fire at Bridlewood Apartments off Highwoods Preserve Parkway.
A kitchen in a third floor apartment at 18145 Sterling Gate Circle had a small grease fire. A sprinkler head opened, extinguishing the blaze.
