Candles start fire; hotel evacuated
[10/27/2008] - The Ventura Beach Marriott was evacuated early Sunday after candles in a guest's bathroom set off the fire sprinkler and alarm systems.
The incident occurred before 1 a.m. at the hotel, located 2055 Harbor Blvd. The Ventura Fire Department responded with four engines and one truck.

Sprinkler system contains Milso Industries fire
[10/27/2008] - A small fire in the duct system of a piece of machinery at Milso Industries Inc., 401 Industrial Parkway, caused company officials to send workers home shortly before 1 p.m. today.
Richmond firefighters responded to a call but a sprinkler system inside the duct work contained and extinguished the fire, according to Richmond Fire Chief Mike Crawley.
Crawley said firefighters assisted with the cleanup. link

Fire shuts down Kremmling plant
[10/26/2008] - KREMMLING — The Confluence Energy wood pellet plant in Kremmling was partially destroyed Saturday morning, when a fire started in one of the plant’s dryers, according to Kremmling Fire Protection District Chief Tony Tucker.
Around 7 a.m. the fire moved to the highest part of the building, and much of the structure was saved thanks to a sprinkler system installed when the building was built this spring. link

Fire forces evacuation of Tucson hotel
[10/20/2008] - TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A fire on the ninth floor of a downtown Tucson hotel forced the evacuation of about 200 guests early Monday. No injuries were reported.
Tucson Fire Department spokeswoman Capt. Tricia Tracy says the fire at the Hotel Arizona was contained and kept from spreading by a sprinkler system.

Minor Fire Hits West Hartford's Hall High
[10/20/2008] - WEST HARTFORD - A fire in an elevator machine room at Hall High School filled a portion of the school with smoke Sunday afternoon.
A sprinkler prevented the blaze from spreading, and Lt. Chris Gordon led his firefighters from Station 4 on Albany Avenue in extinguishing what was left of the fire. link

Building code trend favors fire sprinklers
[10/19/2008] - WASHINGTON -- Six people were in the St. Michaels, Md., house when the smoke alarm went off two summers ago. The sound woke one, who was a light sleeper, according to news reports. And she managed to rouse two of her friends. But three others died in the blaze.
The house was just outside the town limits of the Eastern Shore getaway, which had recently adopted an ordinance requiring all new homes to have a sprinkler system. Consequently, it didn't have one. link
