[10/31/2007] - Over the years, fire sprinklers have become a mandatory safety equipment, and are required by building codes in newer motel units. But older buildings are excluded.
The manager of Bend's Sugarloaf Mt. Motel, Eli LaFranchi, said heat is what sets off the sprinklers at their newer facility: "When there's heat in the room and it expands rapidly, it will set that off."
